Boutique hotel operator and developer Lark is poised to open its first lodging house in the greater Boston area with the debut of Cambridge Common House, currently planned for later this year.
Located just outside of Harvard Square, Cambridge Common House will have 16 rooms designed by Elder & Ash, as well as a lower-level lounge for guests to have breakfast, refreshments and coffee. The converted historic 1835 building—which most recently was a student-housing facility—will join the company’s premier lifestyle Lark Hotels brand.
“We have long flirted with the possibility of opening a concept in Greater Boston and I’m thrilled that it’s finally coming to fruition,” Rob Blood, founder and chairman of Lark, said in a statement. “This space has an inherent charm and historic roots in Harvard Square, starting as a private residence designed by Cambridge’s William Saunders, and eventually serving as student housing for undergrads. It’s an honor to guide it into its next iteration.”
The Portsmouth, N.H.-based company’s portfolio includes some 75 independent properties throughout a number of hotel collections, including its signature Lark Hotels, Bluebird by Lark, Blind Tiger Guest Houses, AWOL and Life House brands.
Lark’s most recent openings were The Bow Hotel, a reimagined hotel within a historic warehouse in Portsmouth; and AWOL Stowe, the third location of its AWOL brand in the heart of Stowe, Vermont. Most recently, the brand’s growth accelerated in late 2024 upon forming a joint venture with contextual brand and operator, Life House.
